COMMUNITY CAN’T COLLECTS TOLLS ON ROADS IN ONDO STATE, SAYS AIYEDATIWA.
Ondo State Deputy Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday declared that, community or town are not allowed by law to collect tolls on roads in the State.
The Deputy Governor made this clarifications during a stakeholders meeting between the State Government, Afo community and Xiamen Win Stone Company Limited held at Cocoa Conference Hall, Governor office, Akure.
Afo is a town in Ose Local Government, Ondo State.
During the meeting, issues about the recently signed agreement between Afo community and Xiamen Win Stone Company Limited were discussed of which the State Government declared that, the document signed by the two parties was defective, as some of the terms of agreement contravened Ondo State law, particularly in the area of Tolls collections on roads.
“Ondo State Law does not permit any Town or community to be collecting tolls on roads in the State” , declared, Aiyedatiwa.
“Let’s have a legal operational system that will be crisis free, not the one that empowers community or town to be collecting tolls on our roads”, he further said.
Warning that, Government would not take it lightly with community or individuals that indulged in collecting tolls on roads.
In attendance with the Deputy Governor are, Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa, Ose Local Government Chairman, Hon Denis Adekunle, Chairman Ondo State Internal Revenue Service, Tolu Adegbie, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Segun Odunsanya, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Gbenga Akingbasote, Afo community representatives led by, Alafo of Afo, Oba Stephen Adegoke Egunjobi, representatives of Xiamen Win Stone Company Limited, Press Secretary to the Governor, office office of the Deputy, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson and others.
