Wike: We Will Not Yield To Pressures From Criminals To Relax Night Curfew

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said he will not yield to the pressures from criminals to relax the night curfew declared across the state.

The Governor vowed that the curfew will continue following the gains that have been made since it was imposed.

The statewide curfew was imposed over a month ago in response to series of attacks by unknown gunmen on various police formations across the state.

Speaking during a statewide broadcast on Friday, Governor Wike said security agencies will continue to take the fight against criminals to their den until they are completely neutralized.

In words “as a matter of fact, they want us to prematurely terminate the statewide night curfew for them to have the leeway to operate again and roll back the gains of the last few weeks but we shall not give in to these pressures as the security of lives and property is more important for us to safeguard at all cost than the business of social interest of anyone else or group”.

“Let me, therefore, assure you that the curfew will not last one day beyond necessary as I appeal to all of us to endure the temporary inconveniences in the interest of the state and our collective wellbeing”.

The Governor also ordered the demolition of shanties and illegal structures along the Eleme-Onne axis of the East-West road in the state as additional measures to check insecurity.

The Governor said the demolition exercise will be carried out within two weeks from Friday.
